Solarflare is the leading provider of application-intelligent networking I/O software and hardware platforms that accelerate, monitor and secure network data, and is the pioneer in high-performance, low-latency 10/40GbE server networking solutions. With over 1,400 global customers, the company's products are widely used in scale-out server environments such as electronic trading, high performance computing, cloud, virtualization and big data.

Solarflare's software and hardware are available from leading distributors and value-added resellers, as well as from Dell, HP and IBM. Solarflare is headquartered in Irvine, California, and operates R&D facilities in Cambridge, UK and New Delhi, India.

  • Russell Stern Russell Stern Russell Stern
    President & Chief Executive Officer
    Russell Stern has served as President and CEO at Solarflare Communications since 2004. He was formerly President and CEO at JNI Corporation in San Diego, California. Prior to JNI, Stern served as General Manager and COO at Quantum Corporation. For more than 13 years, he held a number of increasingly responsible positions in the disc drive industry including five years at Western Digital Corporation in Irvine, CA, where he held the positions of Sr. VP, R and D, VP, Worldwide Operations and as Co-Chief Operating Officer. Stern has also held executive engineering and marketing positions with Seagate Technology and Adaptec. He began his career at IBM, where he held various engineering and management positions in the development and manufacturing of the IBM PC / XT / AT and PS/2. He obtained his Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. Stern is also Chairman of the Foundation Board for the Orange County High School of the Arts, a chartered public school in Santa Ana, CA.

    Chief Financial Officer
    Mary Jane Abalos is responsible for finance and human resources. Previously, she was VP Planning and Finance Operations at Cogent, Inc., a global biometric identification solutions provider in Pasadena, California, where she was involved with strategic planning efforts that ultimately led to the sale of the company to 3M. Prior to Cogent, Abalos held various finance and management positions in technology companies including JNI Corporation in San Diego. She holds a MS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from San Diego State University and a BS in Management Science from the University of California, San Diego.
  • Andre Chartrand Andre Chartrand Andre Chartrand
    Vice President Engineering
    Andre Chartrand is responsible for leading the engineering team in developing software and hardware solutions that create more efficient, accelerated networks. Chartrand joins Solarflare with over 30 years of engineering experience, having led Entropic Communications through a successful IPO in 2007 after serving as Engineering Vice President for three and a half years. Following his role at Entropic, Chartrand served as the Vice President at ClariPhy Communications where he created and managed several world-class teams. Chartrand also held a variety of engineering positions for Transwitch Communications, Velio Communications and Chromatic Research. He holds a BSEE from Ecole Polytechnique, University of Montreal.
  • Ahmet Houssein Ahmet Houssein Ahmet Houssein
    Vice President Marketing & Strategic Development
    Ahmet Houssein is responsible for establishing marketing strategies and implementing programs to drive revenue growth, enter new markets and expand brand awareness to support Solarflare’s continuous development and global expansion. He has over twenty-five years of experience in the server, storage, data center and networking industry, and held senior level executive positions in product development, marketing and business development at Intel and Honeywell. Most recently Houssein was SVP/GM at QLogic where he successfully delivered first to market with 25Gb Ethernet products securing design wins at HP and Dell. One of the key leaders in the creation of the INFINIBAND and PCI-Express industry standard, Houssein is a recipient of the Intel Achievement Award and was a founding board member of the Storage Network Industry Association (SNIA), a global organization of 400 companies in the storage market. He has been educated in London, UK and holds an Electrical Engineering Degree equivalent.
  • Don Kammer Don Kammer Don Kammer
    Vice President Operations
    Don Kammer is responsible for leading the supply chain and quality organizations at Solarflare. Kammer has over 25 years of purchasing, planning, and manufacturing experience with established global technology companies. He joined Solarflare in 2010 as Director of Supply Chain and recently led Solarflare through the successful achievement of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. Previously, Kammer was the Director of Purchasing at QLogic Corporation, responsible for driving product cost reductions and managing supplier relationships. Prior to QLogic, he held various operations, supply chain and procurement positions at Quantum, Western Digital, SCI Systems, Tandon and IBM. He holds a BS in Business Administration from C.W. Post, Long Island University.

    Vice President Business Development
    Russ Krapf is responsible for all worldwide business development efforts which includes strengthening customer relationships and OEM partnerships. Krapf was formerly with ARIO Data Networks where he was CEO and introduced innovative storage networking solutions. Prior to that, he was VP of Business Development in the Fibre Channel connectivity business at JNI Corp in San Diego, where he was responsible for all Business Development strategy and ultimately for the sale of the company to AMCC. Krapf was VP of Business Development at Western Digital Corporation and he has held a number of other CEO and senior executive positions in the past with companies such as Keen Personal Media, Western Digital, Censtor and Seagate. He holds a BS in Engineering Science from Florida State University and an MBA from Boston University.
  • Michael Ofstedahl Michael Ofstedahl Michael Ofstedahl
    Vice President Worldwide Sales
    Michael Ofstedahl is responsible for leading and accelerating the worldwide sales team at Solarflare. Ofstedahl joins Solarflare with over 30 years of executive experience in successfully developing and leading private and publicly held companies. Ofstedahl's leadership roles have put him at the helm of companies in the enterprise computing, data storage, networking, PC, and mobile eCommerce fields. Ofstedahl was previously Vice President of Business Development at Avalanche Technology, where his leadership helped position Avalanche as a leading innovator of breakthrough next generation non-volatile magnetic memory technology. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of SiliconStor Inc. and Velio Communications, where he led strategic acquisitions made by Rambus and LSI. Throughout his accomplished career, Ofstedahl has been a key driver of disrupting the marketplace with innovative technology and strategic partnerships key to each company's success. He has expanded and driven global brand recognition while generating significant global revenues. Ofstedahl holds dual certificates in Executive Management from the University of California Irvine and the Haas business school at Berkeley, as well as a BS in Marketing from San Jose State University.

    Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer
    Steve Pope holds a Ph.D. in Networks and Operating Systems from Cambridge University. He is currently CTO of Solarflare, responsible for technology direction, system architecture and intellectual property.
  • Martin Porter Martin Porter Martin Porter
    Vice President UK Engineering
    Martin Porter is responsible for all software, firmware, hardware and customer support activities at Solarflare. He joined the company through its merger with Level 5 Networks where he served as Software Director for three years. Porter spent the previous five years in the same role at Conexant where he managed the software development group for ADSL silicon, leading to shipments of over 13 million units. Previous roles include lead software architect of the iconic SADiE Digital Audio Workstation. He holds a first class degree in mathematics from Nottingham University and a master's with distinction from York University.
  • Derek Roberts Derek Roberts Derek Roberts
    Co-Founder & Vice President Hardware Architecture
    Derek Roberts is responsible for the controller hardware architecture at Solarflare. He co-founded Level 5 Networks in July 2002. Prior to this, Dr. Roberts was the hardware architect for the CLAN high-performance networking project at AT&T Laboratories Cambridge. While at AT&T Labs, he was also responsible for numerous leading-edge hardware developments. Previously, Dr. Roberts headed up application software development at Myriad Solutions. He holds a first class degree in Electrical Sciences and a Ph.D. in Voltage Standards from the University of Cambridge.
