What are cookies and why do we use them?

The cookies we use are small text files that we place on your device (PC, tablet, phone etc.) when you visit our websites. Your browser sends the cookies back to us on each subsequent visit.

Different cookies do different jobs. For example, remembering your preferences, controlling the way the page looks and helping with your log-in.  They last for different periods of time:

Session cookies last from the time you visit a website until you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain after the browser has been closed and will do so until the expiry date/time has been reached.

We use cookies to control page layout, aid navigation, learn how our website is used and, when you are logged-in, communicate your access rights between pages.

Cookies fall into one of four categories: strictly necessary, performance, functional and targeting.

Strictly Necessary

We use these to:

  • Aid your navigation between pages,
  • Identify you as being logged in to our website,
  • Manage the layout of the page.

Performance cookies

  • Performance cookies collect information about how you use our website.

We use these to:

  • Provide statistics on how our website is used.

Functional cookies

Functional cookies are used to provide services or to remember settings to improve your visit.

We use these to:

  • Show you when you’re logged in to the website

Targeting cookies are linked to services provided by partners. Our website does not use targeting cookies.

Managing cookies

Most browsers allow your level of privacy to be set. You can usually block all, accept all or pick some other cookie setting. You may change your cookie settings at any time, however, you should be aware that blocking all cookies will make it impossible for you to log-in to our website.
